‘Ply more buses to Villivakkam railway station’

A six-year old plea of residents of Ayanavaram and Villivakkam area for a steady bus service to reach Villivakkam railway station has fallen on deaf ears, it seems.

A single bus used to ply between Ayanavaram and Villivakkam railway station six years ago. However, it was temporarily suspended by the government due to the construction of a subway at Villivakkam.

Though the Villivakkam subway was opened by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha on June 19, no new bus has been deployed on the route, used by thousands of locals. Due to this, to reach Villivakkam sub urban railway station people of the region are forced to depend on autos, Aby Varghese, President, Senthil Nagar Youth and Resident’s Welfare Association said. “The Villivakkam subway has been opened for traffic. We request the Metropolitan Transport Corporation to re- introduce the 20M bus service and mini bus service from Villivakkam to Perambur through Villivakkam subway, Redhills and Kolathur. Around five lakh people reside in 54 colonies in the Kolathur area and about 25,000 people are daily using the service of Chennai suburban railway trains,” said.
