CHENNAI: Speaker D Jayakumar on Sunday gave away the Rajasthan Yuva Ratna Awards to outstanding Rajasthanis in the city. The award instituted by the Rajasthani Association Tamil Nadu was presented to recipients on the occasion of Rajasthan Divas celebrations in Chennai.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the Speaker lauded the contributions of the Rajasthani Association towards the welfare of the residents of Chennai.

Recalling the devastating tsunami that struck the coastal areas of the State in 2004, Jayakumar said that the Rajasthani community had done a great service for v i c t ims d u r i n g t h e distress.

The newly-instituted Rajasthani Seva Awards was also presented to two police officers and journalists on the occasion.

While Dr Vinod Surana, Dr Priyadarshana Jain, Shalin Jain, Suresh Mutha and Narendra Srisrimal received the Rajasthan Yuva Ratna Awards, R Sushil Kumar, assistant commissioner of police, Thambusamy, inspector of police, K P Sunil, vice-president (news), Jaya TV, and T R Jawahar, managing director, News Today, received the Rajasthani Seva Awards.
