Rare surgery performed on one-year-old

A one-year-old baby boy got a new lease of life after the doctors at the Global Health City hospital here performed a life-saving surgery on him. Baby T Sai, was admitted to the hospital for a rare case of chest abnormality and he developed chest infection and severe breathing problems. 

Speaking on the complex surgery, Dr Govini Balasubramani, Consultant, Cardiothoracic and lung transplant surgeon, Global Health City, said “It was an extremely complicated Video Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) done, in which the inner part of the right side abnormal growth was removed, which was causing the complications.  VATS helps to recover early and is less painful than the conventional open surgery.”

Like all bones, the ribs begin to form in the developing embryo, but they continue to grow and develop throughout childhood.  The two-hour surgery was performed at Global Health City by Dr Sandeep Attawar, Dr Govini Balasubramani, Dr Vijil Rahulan, along with other specialists.  Speaking on the surgery Dr Sandeep Attawar, Director of Cardiac Surgery and Transplantation, Chief Surgeon and consultant cardiovascular and Thoracic surgery, said, “When baby Sai came to us, he had problems in walking and had respiratory problems. The surgery was performed with VATS  which gavethe boy a second chance to live.
