An insightful field trip

The Adyar police station had unusual visitors dropping by on Monday. A large group of students from a Chennai school marched in to learn more about the working of the personnel at the station, as part of a field trip. About 60 students of class nine from the school located on Kamaraj Avenue, Adyar accompanied by two teachers spent more than two hours at the station to study the day-to-day activities there.

The police personnel at the station explained to them various activities, the documents maintained at the station and the role of All Women Police Station (AWPS). The students also got to learn about counseling done by the personnel to a person approaching them with a petition, the importance of knowing and following traffic rules, the working of finger print experts and rules and procedures to apply for a passport. Students also got to know how the helplines for the elderly and children operate. Enthusiastic students shot a series of questions that stumped the police personnel. But police officials from Adyar Police Station, AWPS and Chennai City Traffic Police gave detailed answers with equal enthusiasm.

Similarly, 50 class nine students from Chennai Girls School and Anita Matriculation located at Rutland Gate, accompanied by four teachers visited the Vepery Police Station.
