Stone laid for effluent treatment plant

The foundation stone for a state-of-the-art common effluent treatment plant at Ambattur Industrial Estate was laid on Monday. The project, to come up on Dairy Road, is a public private partnership between SIDCO Industrial Estate that has leased out the land to Ambattur Industrial Estate Manufacturers’ Association (AIEMA) and JBR Technologies of Ludhiana.

They will work on a build-own-operate basis for 25 years. PS Ramesh, president of AIEMA, said that the project would benefit over 250 units at the Ambattur Estate and a 100 more units in a 25 -km radius. “It is being built at a cost of `4 crore, and has a capacity of 200 kilolitres per day. It should be completed in the next six to eight months,” he said.

Minister for Environment and Pollution Control M C Sampath, Minister for Rural Industries P Mohan, Principal Secretary to the Government for Environment and Forest C V Shankar, Member Secretary of Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board S Balaji and local MLA S Vedachalam were present at the event, apart from other members of AIEMA.
