Award for yoga instructor
A 56-year-old yoga instructor, who has been teaching the ancient science free of cost for the past 12 years, has been honoured with the title of ‘Yoga Kalaimamani’ by the Asana Andiappan College of Yoga and Research. S Kalaichelvi, a mother of three, has been honoured with the title by the college where she began her extensive studies in yoga. “I have taught different techniques of yoga for the past 16 years, and have been following Baba Ramdev’s style of yoga, which I trained in, in Haridwar,” says the grandmother, who is a well-loved name in yoga circles. “My three children are settled well – one is a doctor, one an architect and the third an engineer. However, I am still a student. I am currently in the second year of my MPhil course in yoga at the Sports University in Chennai,” says Kalaichelvi, who already has an MPhil in literature from Madras University.
