A three-year-old girl, who was playing on the road outside her house, was killed after a van belonging to a private school ran over her in Mappedu police limits in Tiruvallur district on Saturday morning.
Police arrested the van driver and further investigations were on.
Police said Shanmugam (45), driver of the private school van, was on his way to drop students in the school in Perumbakkam when the accident took place.
V Anushka of Kumarachery village in Mappedu police limits in Tiruvallur district was playing on the road near her house when the van, carrying students from Kumarachery, Coovum and Kondancheri villages, knocked her down and ran over her, police said. The girl died on the spot.
Police arrested Shanmugam and sent the girl’s body to Tiruvallur Government Hospital.
On Friday, an MTC bus had run amok in Parry’s and killed a three-year-old boy. Four others were injured in that incident.
