CMDA seals building for violation

The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority’s (CMDA) enforcement wing on Thursday sealed a building in Perungudi Industrial Estate in Seevaram Village on Rajiv Gandhi Road for flouting norms.

CMDA sources said the owner of the building had obtained planning permission on May 9, 2011 from the executive officer of Perungudi Town Panchayat for the construction of stilt floors plus two floors for automobile electronic components servicing and repair station.

However, he constructed a commercial showroom  comprising stilt floor plus two floors and partially constructed a third one.

A ‘Stop Work’ notice was duly issued by CMDA on March 13, 2013.

As the owner did not comply with the notice and continued construction, the unauthorized third floor of the building was sealed. The building owner was found to have violated sections 56 and 57 of the Town and Country Planning Act, 1971.
