The State government is taking steps to set up a commissionerate for the welfare of Tamils living in foreign countries, according to Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare Minister Mohammed John.
Replying to a question raised by Colachel MLA J G Prince in the Assembly on Thursday, Mohammed John said that a separate administrative wing was functioning for the welfare of Tamils living in foreign countries (non-resident Tamils) now and that the government was taking steps to set up a commissionerate for them.
Finance Minister O Panneerselvam said that Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa was devoting special attention on issues concerning non-resident Tamils and for their welfare.
