Petition to produce Bangalore blast accused

A woman has moved a habeas corpus writ petition in the Madras High Court seeking to produce her husband and brother-in-law, who were taken into custody by the Chennai police last week in connection with the bomb blast in Bangalore recently, in court.

A division bench of Justices K N Basha and  P Devadass before which the petition came up for hearing on Friday, ordered notice returnable in three weeks.

The petitioner, Syed Ali Fathima of Melapalayam, prayed for a direction to the police to produce her husband Peer Mohideen and brother-in-law Basheer in the HC and to set them at liberty. Fathima said her husband, doing tea business in Bangalore, had come down to Chennai on April 19 to purchase some dress materials. While they, along with two other relatives were at the textile shop in T Nagar, a police team took them into custody and kept them at an undisclosed place.
