Moolakadai overbridge work to be completed soon: Minister

Work to complete the construction of an overbridge in Moolakadai will soon be over, State Highways Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy assured the State Assembly recently.

During the question hour, Perambur MLA A Soundararajan said that the Moolakadai locality was witnessing heavy traffic congestion owing to the absence of service roads at the location where an overbridge was being built.

“The roads have been dug up and the area is witnessing traffic congestion. People, including those coming from Madhavaram area, are inconvenienced,” he said.

Stating that whenever work for infrastructure projects like overbridge was taken up, appropriate arrangements were made to ensure free flow of traffic as in the case of Metro Rail work on the busy Anna Salai, Soundararajan appealed that service roads should be laid expeditiously to end traffic woes.

In his reply, Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy said that the issue pertaining to land acquisition was over now. “The service road laying work has started now,” he said adding that 34 per cent of bridge work and 60 per cent of basement work had been completed.

Being built at an estimated cost of Rs 49.55 crore, the work has been going on for the past several years. The facility is expected to ease traffic in the location.

Steps for patta in Velachery

MK Ashok (Velachery) wanted to know from the Revenue Minister ND Venkatachalam if the government would consider giving pattas for plots allotted by the Tamil Nadu Housing Board in Periyar Nagar and Nehru Nagar areas in Velachery.

Answering him, Venkatachalam said that the land in question was classified as ‘Velachery Lake’ in land documents.

“Based on the request of the TNHB, the issue is now under the consideration of the District Collectorate. If the land happens to be Natham poromboke, patta transfer can be done. For other types of land, this is possible only after proper classification. Appropriate steps will be taken on this issue,” he assured the member.
