'Jai Ho' scholarship distributed

The first- ever ‘Jai Ho’ scholarship worth Rs two crore was distributed to school students across Tamil Nadu here recently. It was an initiative taken by Zee Tamizh Channel and Rotary International. 

The scholarship was part of a new initiative for the benefit of children, who could not pursue their education due to economic constraints. Addressing the gathering Bala Bharathi, one of the organisers of ‘Jai Ho’ scholarship scheme, said that the scholarships were  provided particularly to students in Class 10 and 12.

“It is a CSR initiative to bring the dream of education closer to the underprivileged and to curb the percentage of school dropouts in the State every year,” he said. The scholarship was open to all the Class 10 and 12 students who have appeared in the March – April 2013 examinations conducted by Government of Tamil Nadu. These scholarships were given under four categories - Merit Scholarships, Merit Cum Means Scholarships, Sports and Extra Curricular Activities and First Graduate in the Family.
