A 45-year-old accountant was arrested for killing his wife and dumping a portion of her body in a tank in Sholavaram on Thursday.
Police said Paramasivan, an accountant in a private company, got married to Gandhimathi (39), who was working in a panchayat school in Neduvarambakkam in April this year and started living together in the city.
About 45 days ago, the couple moved to Karanodai in Sholavaram in Tiruvallur district. Meanwhile, the house remained locked for three days and a foul smell began to emanate from it.
On information, Sholavaram Police broke open the house and found the half-burnt dismembered body of the woman in the bathroom. Paramasivan, who was traced and arrested, confessed to have committed the murder on Monday. He had fled the house after dumping a portion of the body into a tank which was later retrieved.
Sources said Gandhimathi got remarried to him and that Paramasivan continued to harass her reminding about the past. On Monday, the couple had a heated argument. The house thereafter remained locked and foul smell began emanating it since Wednesday evening. The neighbours had complained to the landlord, who in turn, alerted the police. The body was moved to Tiruvallur GH for a post-mortem. A case was registered and further investigation is on.
Man Hacked
Meanwhile, a 26-year-old employee of a fuel station was hacked to death at Rajakulam in Kancheepuram in the wee hours of Thursday. Police said the victim Dinesh was manning the fuel station, when a gang which came there on the pretext of purchasing fuel, attacked him.
Dinesh attempted to run away when the gang chased him outside the fuel station and attacked him with machetes and sickles. Dinesh collapsed and died on the spot.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a restaurateur’s son, with whom Dinesh had a fight, was behind the incident. Lokesh, son of a restaurateur, and Dinesh were arrested earlier and let off on bail. However, the enmity brewed and Dinesh was killed by Lokesh who was reportedly taunted by Dinesh a few days ago. The body was moved to Kancheepuram GH and further investigation is on.
Woman Hangs Self
In another suicide case reported in the city, a 58-year-old woman, who worked as a nursing assistant at a hospital in Raj Bhavan, allegedly hung herself in a room at the hospital.
The body was sent for post-mortem and Guindy police registered a case.
