Jaya Fumes as Petrol, Diesel Prices Rise Again

Strongly condemning yet another hike in the prices of petrol and diesel, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday night said the present hike only indicated that the Congress has not learned its lesson from the recent rout it had faced in the Assembly elections.

In a statement here, the Chief Minister urged the Centre to immediately roll back the hike in the fuel prices and that the Central government should bear the diesel distribution commission besides withdrawing the powers given to the oil companies to fix the oil prices on their own.

At a time when the common man is suffering from the inflation, the hike in the petroleum products would only add to the woes of the poor, downtrodden and middle class people in the country by increasing their expenditure, she said and added that hiking the oil price was totally unfair when the crude oil price in international market and value of rupee were stabilised to some extent.

Jayalalithaa said everyone was expecting that India should be put on the higher growth trajectory, the Congress-led coalition government was taking the country in the diagonally opposite direction - the path of

destruction.

Stating that the hike in the petroleum products would have a cascading impact on every point of routine life of common man, the Chief Minister said this would only cause further flare up in the prices of essential commodities.

Petrol price was on Friday hiked by 41 paise a litre and diesel by 10 paise.
