Garudan idols vanished from Mutt: Donor

A Mumbai-based devotee has moved the Madras High Court alleging that some of the expensive gold articles he donated to Ahobila Mutt here have gone missing.

K V Ramani of Deonar, Mumbai, sought a direction to the City Police Commissioner to instruct the inspector attached to Selaiyur police station to register an FIR on his complaint.

Justice A Arumughaswamy, before whom the criminal original petition from Ramani came up for hearing, ordered notice to the CoP and the inspector, returnable in two weeks.

In his petition, Ramani submitted that he was one of the disciples and a regular donor to the Mutt, which was in existence for over 600 years. During the last 20 years, he had given donations to the Mutt to the tune of over `30 crore on various occasions.

He had also donated four Garudan idols, which were kept in the four corners of the Golden Mandapam. However, the idols went missing, he said. There was also misappropriation of funds, he alleged.

He took up the matter with the 45th Mutt Head Srimath Narayana Yathindra Mahadesikan and other responsible persons. As there was no response, petitioner lodged a complaint with Selaiyur police on November 26 last year. But, the police also did not take any action. Hence, the present criminal original petition was filed, Ramani said.
