LIC targets 62 crore customers by 2020

The Life Insurance Corporation is planning to open around 1,800 offices by December 31, 2013 as part of its drive to have an office in all towns of India where population is above 10,000. Addressing a press conference here, Zonal Manager T Sitharthan said that LIC South Zone has already opened 77 mini offices.

During the last financial year, the LIC sold 43.52 lakh policies with a premium income of `2,95,981 lakh.

This financial year, LIC South Zone sold 6.32 lakh policies up to July 15 with a premium income of `47,283 lakh.

He also said that of the 1.70 crore maturity claims payable, LIC has settled 1.68 crore maturity claims. The percentage of claims settled is 99.51 per cent.

The LIC is planning to recruit one lakh agents this financial year. As on date, LIC has 26 crore customers. It plans to draw 62 crore more customers by 2020.
