In a bid to nurture interest for science among its students, the Easwari Engineering College, Chennai, has come up with an exclusive ‘Science Association’ for its students. The association was inaugurated on Monday at an event by Professor of Physics, Presidency College, Chennai, R Samuel Selvaraj in the presence of Director, Ramapuram Campus, R Narayanaswamy, Principal, M Sekar and Vice Principal, K Kathiravan. Selvaraj delivered a special lecture during the event titled ‘Mathematical view on Environmental Problems’.
Selvaraj urged the students to take interest in the engineering and said, “One needs to understand the factors which are affecting the climate and difficulties in weather forecasting to order to work efficiently. Non-linear Mathematics is very useful and important in forecasting weather accurately. There are several other facets of science which can help one increase the efficiency of his work.” The Director of the campus in his address said, “It is very important to apply scientific concepts for constructive purposes. Only through this can one gain holistic understanding of the subject.” The Principal and the Vice Principal spoke at length about the need for innovations in the present day scenario and said that such an association would be very successful in imparting on students this need.
The Vice Principal, Kathiravan said “The students should focus more on coming up with innovations and not just inventions. Every invention should have an innovative purpose.” The Director also felicitated the HOD of the Department of Physics, S Nirmala who will head the association.
