The receiver of a double-barrel gun, along with six cartridges, was found in a bag in a Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) bus by a worker who was cleaning it, here on Wednesday night.

MTC employee Manikandan while cleaning the bus, found a bag underneath the conductor’s seat of the bus that plies on route no 17D between Broadway and KK Nagar.

“When he opened the bag, six cartridges and a double barrel gun without its barrel, was found in it. He immediately called a supervisor, who, in turn, alerted the police,” said a security officer at the bus depot.

A patrol team from the Triplicane police station came to the bus depot and seized the bag.

“The gun seems to be the one used by armed security guards employed in banks. Till now, nobody has come forward to claim the bag and its contents,” said a police source.

The Triplicane police are investigating.
