15 kg gold worth Rs 5 cr seized from passenger

Fifteen kilogramme gold biscuits, worth Rs five crore in the international market was seized from a passenger who arrived here from Kolkotta by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence officials.
DRI officials, acting on a tip-off nabbed A Mundra (32) after he disembarked searched his suitcase and found 15 kg of gold concealed inside.
Mundra, who arrived here on a Spicejet flight at 7 PM, is believed to have arrived in Kolkatta from a foreign country before coming to Chennai, Airport officials said.
On October 7, 20 kg gold biscuits were seized from an Air India flight and five persons were arrested. The officials said surveillance has been enhanced owing to continuous instances of gold smuggling.
