Exclusive operation theatre for dermatology

A mini operation theatre exclusively to perform various dermatology related procedures was inaugurated at a cost `2.5 lakhs at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital on Thursday.

A mini operation theatre exclusively to perform various dermatology related procedures was inaugurated at a cost `2.5 lakhs at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital on Thursday. The hospital being the first government-run institution to have an operating room specially for dermatology, the theatre also has advanced laser equipment installed at a cost of about  `40 lakh through the CM insurance scheme.

Dr V Kanagasabai, Dean, MMC and RGGGH said the 220 square feet theatre has an operation table set up at a cost of about `2.5 lakh and the bed in it can be elevated with a remote control.  Procedures to treat skin tags, acne scar, facial pigmentation, psoriasis, vitiligo, fungal infections, skin scraping, mole removal and others. These treatments that could otherwise cost anywhere between `500 and `20,000 will all be performed free of cost. “We have about 70 post graduate and diplomas in Dermatology. The procedures will be partially for beautification and partially therapeutic,” the dean said. Health minister K C Veeramani inaugurated the operation theatre on Thursday.
