Bombay Jayashri receives award

The fourth annual Indira Sivasailam Endowment Concert was rendered by Bombay Jayashri, at Chennai’s hallowed institution for Carnatic music, The Music Academy, in front a packed audience of Carnatic music lovers. She was conferred with the Indira Sivasailam Endowment medal and a citation at a glittering ceremony, prior to the concert. This annual concert has become a landmark event of the Navarathri season at Chennai.
The award, instituted by Mallika Srinivasan, in association with The Music Academy, in memory of her mother, Indira Sivasailam, recognises Carnatic Musicians on the basis of clearly defined parameters and the recipient is chosen by an eminent jury constituted by The Music Academy and Mallika Srinivasan.
Mallika Srinivasan, Chairman, Tractors and Farm Equipment Limited, speaking on behalf of The Indira Sivasailam Endowment Fund said, “Bombay Jayashri was the unanimous choice of the academy’s jury, based on the laid down criteria.”
She added, “Her popularity and audience appeal has played an exceptional role in establishing Carnatic music’s glory amongst the international music community. I appreciate her innovative approach in reaching out to, and encouraging and nurturing youngsters to pursue and excel in Carnatic music. I express my gratitude to the Music Academy, for its enthusiastic support towards The Indira Sivasailam Foundation.”
Acknowledging the award, Bombay Jayashri in her acceptance speech said “My heartfelt gratitude goes for this recognition which I wish to offer at the feet of my guru. With this award, I am ever inspired to continue to honour and uphold the trust of The Indira Sivasailam Foundation and The Music Academy in my life’s journey of music. “
