An inter-caste couple knocked at the doors of the city police seeking protection from the girl’s father, who they alleged had hired goons to separate them, here on Tuesday.

B Monisha and J Balasubramaniam, accompanied by an advocate, submitted a petition to the city police alleging that Monisha’s father C Balathandayuthapani had been intimidating them for the past few days.

“We met each other during our college days. Though my father was opposed to the relationship, I married Balasubramaniam after escaping to Chennai,” said Monisha. She added that they got married at Tambaram sub-registrar office on October 11.

“We are living in a rented house at Royapuram. However, my father has been lodging false police complaints against Balasubramaniam. Now, he has hired goons to separate us,” Monisha added.

Alleging that their friends, who had assisted them, were being targeted, the couple sought protection. The petition has been forwarded to the police station concerned for further action.

Two Quacks Held

A raid at a private clinic in Kovilambakkam resulted in the arrest of two school passout sisters practising as doctors, here on Monday.

The matter came to light after a tip-off that the duo was running a full-fledged clinic and was even performing abortions, sources said.

According to police, Sabeena and Sahina, residents of Kovilambakkam, had been running the clinic for the past six years at Gandhi Nagar.

“The sisters are only school passouts. They had set up a clinic and were passing themselves off as doctors, but the only higher qualification they had was that of a correspondence course in alternative medicine from an institute in Kolkata,” said inspector R Alagu.
