The Soka Ikeda College of Arts and Science for Women celebrated its 10th graduation ceremony with great austerity and reverence on Sunday. Dr Shihab Ghanem, UAE poet and Tagore Peace Awardee was the chief guest at the occasion. 333 graduates of MPhil, MCom and UG courses received their degrees from Dr Ghanem.

In his convocation address, Dr Ghanem spoke about women’s empowerment and the need to improve the conditions women’s education and make it favourable for them.  Yasodha Shanmuga Sundaram, former Vice Chancellor of Mother Teresa Women’s University and former Principal of Ethiraj College was the guest of honour. In her felicitation address to the graduates, she requested them to be grateful to their parents and bring glory to the nation. 

Kumana Rajan,  chief editor of Tamil Lemuriya Magazine was the other guest of honour. He quoted Tamil poets Kavimani and Bharathiyar and asked the graduates to break the age old prejudices and build a healthy society with new ideas and thoughts.

Rani Christhu Dhas, the principal, presented a report on the activities of the college and outlined the results of the university examinations.
