In a freak accident near Poonamalle on Monday, an 80-year-old man seated in the front seat of an Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) bus was killed after he was flung on to the road through the windshield when the driver applied the emergency brakes.

The victim, Govindan, was travelling in the bus (route no. 62) along with his wife Ranganayaki (65).

The couple, residing at Arcot in Vellore, was returning after visiting their daughter at Ambattur when Govindan met with the tragic end.
