Rajini's Next Flick Named After his Grandson

After much speculation, the makers of Rajinikanth’s next film have confirmed that it’s title is Lingaa. This is a happy coincidence for the Superstar as that is the name of his grandson as well (Aishwarya and Dhanush’s second son). The film is to be directed by his old good-luck-charm K S Ravikumar and will star hot, young starlets Sonakshi Sinha and Anushka Sharma.

Though Sonakshi Sinha has been talking about her involvement in the mega-project to a few media outlets in Bollywood, this is the first time that K S Ravikumar has had to make an announcement about a movie under such immense pressure. Ravikumar, who last directed the Superstar in Muthu (1995) and Padaiyappa (1999), has been trying to keep details of this project under wraps at least until Kochadaiiyaan (which is written by Ravikumar) releases in two weeks, “The overwhelming pressure for news about Lingaa is what pushed them to finally make this announcement,” said a spokesperson.

With shooting reportedly set to begin on May 2 in Mysore, the crew is a little worried that this commercial venture will steal the thunder right from under Kochadaiiyaan’s feet. It is also believed that Rajinikanth plays a double role, alternating between two eras — the present and the 40s — necessitating two heroines. A R Rahman, a standard fixture in almost all Rajini ventures in the last decade, has also signed on.
