Dr Amar Agarwal Gets Best Doc Award

CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday presented the Best Doctor award of the State government to Prof Dr Amar Agarwal of the Agarwal Group of Hospitals, for his outstanding services in the field of rehabilitation of visually challenged for the past 28  years. He has accomplished landmark achievements by performing modern correctional surgeries to control blindness.

The citation said Dr Agarwal had organised more than 5,500 medical camps benefiting over seven lakh persons and performed correctional surgeries for more than three lakh people. All of them were provided free accommodation and food during their treatment.

Extending his services outside this metro, he has covered two districts in AP besides six districts in TN. Further, he is an author of 55 medical research books, published at the global level.

Dr Agarwal has presented 654 research papers at international conferences held in 20 countries. While managing 55 eye hospitals in his group, he is also holding key responsibilities in several international societies of cataract and refractive surgeries.

The CM presented the Best Private Employer award for providing maximum number of placement to differently abled persons to Sakthi Masala Private Limited in Erode. PC Duraiswamy, MD of Sakthi Masala received the award. Since its inception in 1997, more than 1,004 persons have been employed and rehabilitated. Differently-abled account for 12 per cent of the employees of this institution and they are provided with all labour welfare measures. They are also facilitated with barrier free environment at the work place.
