City Hosts Golden Peacock Awards for the First Time

CHENNAI: The Institute Of Directors Tamil Nadu with the support of IOD Delhi, held a Global Summit and the Golden Peacock Awards presentation on August 22 and 23 at ITC Grand Chola. The main theme of the summit was ‘Business Excellence thru’ Board Room Best Practices’.  The two-day summit sought to address, debate, deliberate and proactively usher in an era where corporates effectively carry out their role towards this mission.

All sessions were chaired by former CVC N Vittal, former CEC T S Krishna Murthy, former senior officials of the Accountant General’s office, speakers from Consulate offices representing countries such as Israel and Argentina and representatives from Singapore, UAE, Dubai and France.

The various thematic topics deliberated in the Global Summit included integrity integrated for business excellence, brand building through boardroom composition, GRC framework – board vision, board performance vs stakeholders’ expectations, regulatory environment for better corporate governance in India, Middle East, Rest of Asia and South America, Business Delegation from Trinidad and Tobago.

The Golden Peacock Awards presentation was held for the first time in the city under IOD banner.

Eight of the awardees included Sify Technologies Limited, Reliance Infrastructure Limited, Birla Sun Life Insurance Limited, Cairn Energy India, Ericcission Limited, Jubilant Life Science Limited.

The presidential address was delivered by Governor K Rosaiah, who gave away the awards. The Excellence Award was presented to TM Bhasin, chairman and managing director -  Indian Bank, and the Business Excellence Award to Milind Kharat, CMD, United India Insurance Company Limited.

The Life Time Achievement Award was given to PS Surana, founding partner, Surana & Surana, International Attorneys, R Seetharaman, chairman and managing director, Doha Bank, and  A Vellayan, chairman, Murugappa Group.
