Kanimozhi, daughter of DMK chief Karunanidhi and Rajya Sabha MP, was rushed to the Kauvery Hospital in Alwarpet on Sunday morning after she complained of feeling giddy. Her blood pressure and sugar levels were reportedly lower and hence, warranted hospitalization, according to the hospital.
There were worries about her health as Karunanidhi visited the hospital at 6.30 pm, followed by M K Stalin and former telecom minister A Raja, a little later.
Just like DMK party sources, the hospital chose to attribute the giddiness and vertigo to “high stress”. They said, “She had been preparing to speak about a reservation issue in Parliament next week and so had been working constantly for the past four days on it. She hasn’t had sleep in at least 48 hours, so she was highly stressed.” This was practically what did the rounds in party circles as well, and appeared to be the consensus.
According to hospital sources, she was examined immediately and admitted as she required an influx of glucose drips, administered intravenously (IV drip).
“She is fine and there is nothing to worry about,” said a doctor at the hospital who added, “She is now resting with the drips being given to her. She will regain some strength and after checking her vital parameters she can return home in the evening,” he added at 3 pm.
However, in the course of the evening, doctors decided that it would be better for her to spend the night in hospital and said that they would take a call on discharging her on Monday morning. “She will need four-five days of rest so she may not be able to travel anywhere for a while,” added a source.
Kanimozhi’s hospitalization comes on the heels of a tumultuous couple of weeks for the Karunanidhi clan and the DMK as the rift between the party scion and MK Alagiri blew wide open, causing worry for practically everyone in the DMK - of which Kanimozhi is an integral part.
