A tipsy 23-year-old construction worker allegedly molested a married woman at knife-point at Ramavaram during the wee hours of Saturday.

The worker Hari Prasad, (23), a native of Pappireddypatti in Dharmapuri, sneaked into the residence of the woman through the front door while she was sleeping. The woman had kept the door open so that her husband who works on night shift in a private firm can enter the house without waking her up.

Hari entered the kitchen from where he took a knife and groped the woman at knife-point. After the woman raised an alarm, Chandrasekar, who was recently selected for the Youth Brigade Wing, along with a few other residents stormed into the house of the victim and caught the construction worker. Based on a complaint, Valasaravakkam police registered a case and arrested the accused.

He was later remanded to judicial custody.

Man Electrocuted

K Ayyappan, 24, a resident of Nerkundram near Maduravoyal, got electrocuted when he came in contact with a live cable at Koyambedu. Ayyappan, a welder at a private company at Nerkundram, was at work when he suffered electrocution. He was taken to a private hospital where he died.

Chain Snatched

Unidentified men on a two-wheeler robbed a woman of her five-sovereign gold chain and escaped.

Police said the woman Annapuranai (45), a resident of Pillayar Koil Street at Vadapalani, was on her way to buy milk in the morning when she lost the jewels. Based on her complaint, a case was registered.

House Burgled

Fifty sovereigns of gold jewels were reported missing from a house, belonging to a wholesale toy merchant, at Sowcarpet, here, on

Saturday. Police said the businessman’s family was informed by the neighbours that the front door of their residence was broken open.

Fake Doctor Nabbed

A fake doctor was arrested in the Mundiyambakkam Government Hospital, in Villupuram on Friday.

Bakeyaraj (26), who hailed from Thoothukudi, claimed to be a specialist in the cardiology department. He was nabbed at the Mundiyambakkam Government Hospital here by resident medical officer Manivannan.

He said, we made some investigations after seeing an ID card pinned to his coat pocket. When we found that he was a fake, we handed him over to Vikravandi police.
