A two-member knife-wielding gang robbed a woman of a 13-sovereign gold chain in a laboratory at West Mogappair on Friday, hardly a kilometre away from the city Police Commissioner S George’s house.

Police said the victim S Buetlin (35) had opened the medical laboratory located opposite the West Mogappair bus stop when two men entered it at around 7.15 am by posing as patients wanting to take a blood test.

The woman was preparing to collect the blood when one of the men brandished a knife, snatched her chain and fled.

The Police Commissioner’s house is within a kilometre away from the laboratory opposite of which was also a police booth.

Police sources said that there were CCTV cameras nearby, but they have not been working for the last few weeks.

Besides George, several top police officers reside in the locality.

Based on Buetlin’s complaint, Nolambur police have registered a case and are investigating.
