Speaker P Dhanapal on Monday announced that Deputy Leader of the DMK in the State Assembly, Durai Murugan, has been suspended for five days from the proceedings of the State Assembly for making false charges against Municipal Administration Minister KP Munusamy with regard to the comment he had made in the House on October 29, 2013.
Munusamy had raised a privilege against DMK floor leader MK Stalin and Durai Murugan for making false charges against him and it was referred to the Privileges Committee. The Committee held its hearing recently and its report was presented to the House by its Chairman and Deputy Speaker Pollachi V Jayaraman on Monday.
Leader of the House O Panneerselvam moved a resolution to give effect to recommendations made by the Privileges Panel. Following this, the Speaker warned Stalin that stern action would be taken against him if he commits similar mistakes in future while ruling that Durai Murugan had been suspended for five days.
