MOdi

Meghna Patel, a model and actor from Gujarat, recently grabbed eyeballs with erotic pictures of her wearing a few strategically located lotus blooms.

She said she was doing it to promote Narendra Modi for PM, and in one picture, even held up a placard with his photo. Not surprisingly, her pictures prompted such a lot of traffic that her website soon crashed.

City Express asked her how she could imagine going in the buff for a party that considers itself conservative and its rivals consider prudish. This is what she said:

What inspired you to strip and deck up in flowers for Narendra Modi?

Modi is a person of great eminence and has done a lot for the prosperity of his state. Now he is a prime ministerial candidate. This inspires me to think a lot about our country.

Do the BJP and Modi approve of your way of showing support? Have you heard from them?

Freedom of speech is a political right, and one can communicate one’s opinions and ideas using one’s body and property. That’s all I have done. BJP spokesman Madhav Bhandhari had said he welcomed people supporting the party.

Is it cool to take your clothes off for a cause?

I have not taken off my clothes. I was wearing them at the time of the photo shoot. I have done a very artistic and aesthetic photo shoot, and it is beautifully posed with flowers. It is my way of expressing my feelings and urging the country to select the right prime minister in Modi.

You do know that many groups affiliated to the Sangh Parivar hounded M F Husain for painting mythological figures in the nude?

Yes, I am aware of everything. I have not done a nude photoshoot and I do not promote nudity. I was wearing clothes while doing the shoot. I have done everything legally and I have not done anything wrong.

What’s next?

I’ve done many Hindi movies like Farrar and Welcome and my upcoming film, Dekho Yeh Hai Mumbai Real Life, is about to be released. I’ve also done a TV serial on Sahara One called Kahani Chandrakanta. I’ve just completed a movie called Solar Swapnam, and it is about to be released on April.
