Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday inaugurated the sale of chapathis at the Amma Unavagam subsidised eateries. Two chapathis would now be made available for just Rs.3, and would be served with dal fry, between 6 pm and 9 pm.

She also inaugurated Rs 548.67 crore worth projects carried out by various arms of the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department. Jayalalithaa also inaugurated two new Amma Unavagams at the Government Stanley Hospital and the Government Hospital for Women and Children in Egmore.

The sale of chapathis at the Amma Unavagams has been in the pipeline for some time, and was announced in the Assembly in the recently concluded session. The expansion of the menu also means the popular Amma Unavagams would now be open for dinner as well.

Jayalalithaa had first inaugurated Amma Unavagams in Chennai on February 19, 2013. The project was first expanded to all 200 wards of the Chennai Corporation, before being expanded to the other nine Municipal Corporations in the State.

Jayalalithaa also inaugurated a host of projects in Chennai. These included the Rs 174 crore pedestrian and two-wheeler subway in Rangarajapuram and Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board’s (CMWSSB) drinking water projects worth Rs 380.49 crore at Alandur, Ambattur, Thiruvottriyur and Maduravoyal.

She also inaugurated upgrading works worth Rs 80.08 crore on three drinking water distribution stations, namely South Zone, Anna Park and KK Nagar, and Rs 86.04 crore worth underground sewerage projects in Madhavaram and Amabattur. Jayalalithaa declared open a grievance redressal centre and control room set up by CMWSSB for Rs 32 lakh, and issued orders to 66 beneficiaries of compassionate appointments at CMWSSB.

Municipal Administration, Law, Courts and Prisons Minister KP Munusamy, Mayor Saidai S Duraisamy, Chief Secretary Sheela Balakrishnan, Municipal Administration and Water Supply Secretary Phanindra Reddy, Chennai Corporation Commissioner Vikram Kapur and CMWSSB MD B Chandramohan were among those present at the function, held at the Secretariat.
