The city is set to see a conglomeration of amateur chefs and food lovers descend on The Park Hotel come February as the Second Edition of the Superchef Chennai, an amateur cooking competition, was announced on Monday.

The competition, open only to amateurs, will be held in the city on February 8 and 9. Organised by the Madras Cosmopolitan Ladies Circle 38 and the Madras Cosmopolitan Round Table 94 in association with the hotel, the competition have three categories — the Adult Individual, Adult Team and Juniors, comprising children aged between 10 and 14 years.

The launch of the second edition saw tennis star Somdev Devvarman, who even whipped up a strawberry and banana flambe, at the press conference held recently. “It is a huge honour to be chief guest at such an event, especially when even professional chefs went away with ideas from the competitors at the last edition,” he said.

The contest will have a preliminary shortlisting of registered candidates who will then be subjected to a culinary quiz on the first day of the competition. The winners of the quiz will battle it out in the live cooking segment, which will be held on February 9, to determine the winners of the three categories.

The panel of judges will comprise of reputed chefs like Sanjeev Kapoor, Vicky Ratnani, Sanjay Thumma and Rajesh Radhakrishnan.
