At a recent award function held in Mumbai, actor Amitabh Bachchan was all praise for Chennai-based non profit, Bhumi. The actor handed over the ‘Leader in Volunteer Engagement Award 2013’ at the iVolunteer Awards ceremony to the NGO’s co-founder, Dr Prahalathan K at the event, and said: “This is like a drop in the ocean and it is through this drop that we can change the lives of so many people. The idea of sharing what you learn is wonderful.”
The other categories as part of the ceremony were ‘Volunteer Hero of the Year Award’ and ‘Leader in Employee Volunteering’ won by won by Selva Ganapathy (AID, Chennai) and M/S Cummins respectively.
Said Shalabh Sahai, co-founder, iVolunteer, “The winners were selected by the jury after a public online voting process that had a reach of one crore people.”
