CHENNAI: The 203rd Birth Anniversary of Sir Isaac Pitman’s was celebrated by the Stenographers’ Guild here recently. TS Sridhar, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Commissioner for Revenue Administration, Government of Tamil Nadu was the Chief Guest and Swami Gitasarananda of Ramakrishna Mutt was the guest of honour.
Sridhar emphasised the importance of stenography. He added that he owed a lot to the inventor of English shorthand Sir Isaac Pitman. He said that being a stenographer helped him improve his listening skills as well as his English communication that enabled him to clear the Civil services.
Sridhar also unveiled Sir Pitman’s portrait and garlanded it. He also distributed office automation certificates to students. Sivasubramaniam, honorary president of The Stenographers’ Guild spoke about Sir Isaac Pitman’s words ‘time saved is life gained.’
He also requested more people to not only pursue stenography, but also impart the same. S Sekar, honorary principal, proposed the vote of thanks.
