CHENNAI: For the sixth year in succession, ‘The Little Theatre’ is to conduct its international theatre festival for young audiences titled ‘The Little Festival’, between July 2 and 11. A series of plays scripted by the group and theatre groups from Iran and South Korea will be staged at the Museum Theatre, Egmore. Starting on July 3, Red Bean Can, a play by the theatre, which is aimed at entertaining older children, will be staged in three shows on Friday and Saturday. Another play by Little Theatre Sing Along will have popular songs as part of it. “The play is sure to have a lot of interactive singing and dancing for the kindergarten children,” said Aysha Rau, director.

As for the foreign plays, Simorgh Dramatic Group, a group from Iran, will stage a non-verbal play using puppets called ‘The Last Leaf’ on Sunday (July 5 at 6 pm) and Monday (July 6 at 10 am and 12 pm).

South Korean puppet group Manetsangsahwa’s ‘Puppet Fantasy, Hooray!’ will be staged on July 5 (6pm) and July 6 (10am and 12 pm) for audiences aged five and above.

“The children will be exposed to plays from other countries and this will facilitate a better understanding of their culture and theatre. With these inputs, the quality of theatre here will improve,” Aysha added.

Apart from plays, there are panel discussions on July 6 and 8. The panel will comprise members of the Little Theatre and Assitek, Mohammed Boroumand, playwright from Iran, Anil Srinivasan, classical pianist and representatives from the British council. They will discuss the importance of art in education and how art unites nations.
