Ambica Celebrates 25 years of Sparkle

What started with a mobile kit of jewellery designs and later expanded into Ambica Pearl and Jewellers, is now celebrating 25 years of its business, with the launch of their second branch at Alsa Mall, on Thursday.

“When my husband was in the Army, I used to travel with him and take a mobile kit of my designs along. Then in 1990, when we shifted to Chennai, I put up exhibitions. It was a huge success and in 1997, our first branch at Spencer Plaza opened. We completed 25 years on July 1 and also established another branch,” said Veena Malhotra(65), proprietor of Ambica Pearl and Jewellers.

Veena, a gemologist who also undertook training in diamond cutting in Mumbai, had started off her business with pearls imported from Japan and other gems. “Nobody knew how to string pearls and gems together. I brought the trend to the city,” she said, displaying her design of three strands of pearls, held together with a diamond studded pendant at the side. “These South sea pearls are very expensive. Everyone wants to own one,” she added.

Her designs are original and no two pieces are the same. As for the more unusual varieties available, Veena said, “We make tiger nail jewellery. As tiger nails are banned in India, we make synthetic replicas. For our customers who possess real tiger nails, we redesign it,” For their silver jubilee occasion, discounts and vouchers are being offered. For details, contact 28553642.
