Amma Cement Sale Breaches 1-Crore Mark

CHENNAI: The sale of subsidised Amma Cement, aimed at helping families hailing from poor and middle-classes to construct their dream homes at an affordable cost, crossed one crore bags since it was launched on January 5. The scheme was announced by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on September 26 last.

“Until July 16, around 5.17 lakh metric tonnes, i.e., one crore cement bags have been sold to 1,33,595 beneficiaries through 470 godowns across the State”, an official release from the Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Cements Corporation Limited here said.

Amma Cement is available at subsidised rate of Rs.190 per bag.

Under the scheme, a maximum of 750 bags of cement is being given to those who build houses upto a maximum of 1,500 sq.ft. For those who renovate or repair existing houses,  100 bags could be availed. Those wishing for details about the scheme, could dial the toll-free number  1800 425 22000.
