Evening Rain Gives Chennai a Breather

CHENNAI: Evening showers helped bring down temperature in the city from 40 degrees, giving the much needed respite on Friday.

The city has been witnessing hot weather for the last few days due to westerly winds which have been delaying the onset of the sea breeze along the city coast.

The showers is due to convective activities of the winds which would be circulating moisture and heat from the land to clouds bringing rain, according to the meteorological department,

It rained heavily in Neelankarai, Tiruvanmiyur, Adyar, Kotturpuram and Mylapore with Neelankarai and adjoining areas receiving a downpour for over two hours.

Though North Chennai witnessed only intermittent rains, it resulted in water stagnation on many roads throwing traffic out of gear.

The forecast for the next 48 hours for the city is that the sky would be generally cloudy.

Rain or thundershowers would occur in some areas, with the maximum temperature being around 40 and minimum temperature at 28 degrees.
