Man Nabbed for Abusive Post on FB

A 24-year-old man was arrested for harassing a woman after he allegedly posted the woman’s photo on Facebook and tagged her as a call girl.

CHENNAI:A 24-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for harassing a woman after he allegedly posted the woman’s photo on Facebook and tagged her as a call girl. Police said the man was taking revenge on the girl’s family with whom his parents recently had an ugly quarrel.

The accused S Vigneswaran, a diploma holder who works in a small factory, had reportedly deleted the post on knowing that the girl was approaching police.

“The girl’s family was residing in a house owned by the accused for one-and-half years. Recently, they vacated the house and there was a dispute over settlement of the advance. Both families had a tiff in public and the girl’s father had abused the parents of the young man. Angered by this, he had decided to defame the girl by posting her photo as a call girl on Monday,” said a police officer.

However, by the time the girl came to know about it and approached the Thirumullaivoyal police on Tuesday, he had removed the post. The police said they were unable to trace the post.

But still Vigneswaran was booked under Section 4 of Prevention of Women Harassment Act based on the victim’s complaint.

“Since the girl said he had also passed comments on her, we have booked him for eve teasing,” said inspector Rajes Kanna of Thirumullaivoyal police.

He was produced before a judge on Tuesday night and remanded to judicial custody.
