Free Bus Trips to Rameswaram to Pay Tribute

CHENNAI:  A city-based group has arranged free trips from Chennai to Rameswaram in association omnibus operator Parveen Travels, for those wishing to travel to Rameswaram to pay their last respects to Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.

K Abdul Ghani, a core committee member of the Innovation Youth NGO Summit, came up with the idea on Monday night after Kalam’s death. Ghani was closely associated with Kalam, who was a mentor of sorts to him, said Yeshwant, one of the organisers of the trip. As soon as this announcement was made on Facebook, the post went viral. “Around 200 people have enquired. Most of them youngsters whom Kalam inspired immensely,” Yeshwant said. The first set of 50 passengers left at 10 am on Tuesday and the oranisers have arranged two additional trips.
