I-T Dept Extends Last Date for Filing Returns to Aug 31

CHENNAI: The Income Tax department has extended the last date for filing of returns to August 31, 2015.An income tax department release stated that the deadline was extended for the tax payers who have income from salary, house property, other sources and income from business or profession not subjected to audit. For the tax payers who have to statutorily get their accounts audited, the due date remains September 30, a Income Tax spokesperson said.

This time, the income tax department has introduced a simplified form called ITR-2A. Meanwhile, even persons below the age of 80 have to furnish their return of income electronically. This applies to those individuals, whose income exceeds `5 lakh. This also includes those who claimed refund in the return of income besides tax payers having income from business or profession, said the spokesperson.
