3 Months for Bridge Opening

CHENNAI: The State government informed Madras High Court that the over bridge at Moolakadai junction on Madhavaram High Road would be completed within three months. The government gave this assurance while responding to a PIL filed by M Gouthaman, an advocate and resident of Ottravadai Street, Puzhal, who stated that public were put to great hardship because the overbridge has not been completed within the stipulated time.

Petitioner submitted that he project commenced in 2010 in order to decongest the junction and had a deadline of 24 months. But even after four years, the project has not been completed, he said. “I sent a representation to the government of Tamil Nadu on August 26, 2013, to which authorities replied that the project was delayed due to land acquisition problem and steps were taken to complete the work expeditiously,” said Gouthaman.

Citing that even after the reply tendered by the government there was no progress in construction work, Gouthaman sought the court to direct the government to lay bitumen roads on both sides of the under-construction bridge, till completion of the work to ease traffic movement. He further sought to direct the government to complete the construction within the time fixed by the court.

When the petition came up before the first bench comprising Chief Justice SK Kaul and T S Sivagnanayam, government pleader submitted that the bridge would be opened in three months.
