It’s been a month since demonetisation was announced, and after the ups and downs, the government has claimed that hard times are easing, and that most ATMs have been recalibrated to dispense all denomination of legal tender.
Express staffer Anagha Unni wanted to rebuff the claims surrounding the issue herself and set out ATM hopping on the way from the office to home (The New Indian Express, Ambattur Estate to East Banu Nagar, Kallikuppam).
In the process, she covered 25 ATMs, spoke to shopkeepers nearby to ascertain when cash was last filled in those cash dispensing machines, and photographed the ATMS.
Surprisingly, some of the ATMs have not been loaded since the day of the announcement, 30 days ago.
