CHENNAI: In yet another murder of a young woman allegedly by an estranged lover, a 22-year-old BBA graduate was found dead in a lodge room close to her house at Mylapore on Thursday night.

The women identified as E Nivetha, a resident of Veeraperumal Koil Street in Mylapore, had gone missing from her house on Wednesday evening at around 4.30 and the next day her body was found in room number 210 in a lodge hardly two km away from her house.

On Thursday night at around 11, the room service boy had found the room door closed, but not locked. “When he did not get a response to the knocks at the door, he stepped inside to find the girl dead. He immediately alerted the hotel authorities who informed the police. The Mylapore police who rushed to the spot recovered the body and sent it to government Royapettah hospital for postmortem.

Initial investigations revealed that the girl had rented a room in Pinic Plaza situated at R K Mutt Road on Wednesday evening claiming the room was for her friends.

“On Thursday morning two boys checked into the room and at 9.30 Nivetha had come to the room. Same evening both the boys left the room. This created suspicion. However the same night the staff found the body,” said a senior police officer.

“Investigations also pointed out that Nivetha had met one of the boys through Facebook and later they started contacting each other over the phone. But we do not know if there were into a relationship. A special team has been set up to trace the suspects. We have lifted CCTV footage from the complex and also recovered a two-wheeler which is believed to be used by the boys,” added the officer. Police personnel confirmed that there were no signs of sexual assault.

The lodge was situated on the second floor of a shopping complex at Lux junction which is one of the main roads in the city and there was a bar on the first floor.
