RPF Seizes 305 Arrack Bottles

CHENNAI: Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel recovered over 300 arrack bottles, allegedly meant for consumption by city migrant labourers, concealed in two bags lying unclaimed in the Jammu Tawi Express, which arrived at Chennai Central on Tuesday.

The seizure comes exactly a month after security forces unearthed nearly 200 bottles of country liquor from Navajeevan Express train reportedly meant for sale in the slums of Chennai. In both cases, the arrack and country liquor was manufactured in Maharashtra, RPF sources said.

“The bottles were recovered from the S4 compartment of Jammu Tawi Express train. They were hidden in two bags containing 150 and 155 90 ml bottles,” an RPF officer said. It was meant for supplying to migrant labours working in the city, sources claimed. Asked whether any organised gang was involved, sources replied in the affirmative.
