CHENNAI: Chief Minister and AIADMK General secretary J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday accused the opposition parties of being bereft of any  concern for people's welfare and running a smear campaign against the AIADMK.

Solemnising the weddings of 14 AIADMK functionaries' families at YMCA Grounds here, she said "the opposition parties have no real concern for the welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu. Their only objective is to run a smear campaign against AIADMK. They do this as they cannot stomach our growth. And that is a yardstick for our growth."

Quoting late leader CN Annadurai who advised the cadre to treat false charges as a means to move forward, Jayalalithaa said "the only political movement which was committed to people's welfare is the AIADMK. I take pride in saying this."

Exhorting the cadre to work for a massive win in the ensuing Assembly elections, the Chief Minister said : “if you can’t achieve this, who else can? I have great confidence that you will accomplish the task for the AIADMK in the ensuing elections.”

Jayalalithaa referred to an anecdote of how a politician taught vital lesson to his son who wish to climb the ‘ladder’ to reach the ‘top’, but ultimately could not do so because of his father’s intervention. “I have narrated this anecdote to show how dangerous is the path to politics. If you imagine somebody else, I am not responsible for that”, she said amidst laughter from the audience.

Housing Minister R Vaithilingam welcomed the gathering. Earlier, Jayalalithaa was given a rousing reception by the AIADMK cadre on her arrival.
