CHENNAI: A BBA graduate and a diploma-holder  in electrical engineering were among a five- member twowheeler-stealing gang arrested by the city police at Maduravoyal on Saturday.

Police recovered 17 bikes from the gang of strangers who had got together at a TASMAC bar recenlly and plotted to steal bikes.

The Maduravoyal police identified the arrested as S Sanjeevi (28) and S Vinod (27) of Arakkonam, K Gopinath (31) and M Rajesh (28) of Tiruvalankadu and B John (25) of Tiruvallur.

Police investigations revealed that the five accused became friends at a Tasmac outlet in Arakonam and plotted to steal twowheelers to earn quick bucks. Of them, John, working as a cab driver, was an accused in a robbery case in Tiruvallur five years ago, a police officer said.

Vinod and Rajesh were running a computer centre at Thakkolam in Arakonam while Gopinath, a diploma-holder, was working as an electrician. “They decided to steal unattended bikes parked on roadside and sell them at throwaway prices,” an investigating officer said. It came to light that John used to inform others about the vehicles found on the roadside and the gang would carry out their operation at night.
