Entrepreneurs Urged to Innovate

Great Lakes Institute of Management hosted its 8th international entrepreneurship conference on its campus on the theme ‘Data driven insights, disruptive innovation & entrepreneurship-convergence’.  Bala V Balachandran, chairman, Great Lakes Institute, said, “Today’s business scenario is data driven. Huge amount of data is available for any business every second. But how do you make use of it makes all the difference to your business.” Raj Sethuraman, chair of marketing, Cox School of Business, US, through a video link, spoke on how to derive insights from data which in turn leads to innovation and entrepreneurship.

Literary Event at School

The second anniversary of the English literary association called Bards Beacon at Chettinad Vidyashram was celebrated in the school auditorium. Meena Muthiah, the Kumara Rani of Chettinad, urged the students to explore their innate creative talent for success in their lives. There was a special address by principal Amudha Lakshmi. The winners of various competitions received the prizes from Meena Muthiah. A cultural show was staged by the students with dance and musicals to entertain the audience.

Sports Day at Sindhi School

Sindhi Model School in Kellys celebrated nursery and lower primary sports day. Vajra founder Pooja Malhotra presided over as the chief guest. She appreciated the children for showcasing their multifaceted talents. The march past, synchronized drill featuring the formation of SMS to denote the he 40th year celebration of the school, circles in different colours symbolising values and the bevy of cultural items were the highlights of the sports day meant for children. The track and group events interspersed with themes of festivals, folklore and science fiction entertained the gathering. 

Software Competition in College

Prakalpa, a regional project competition on the use of embedded system software kits for innovative applications, was hosted by Rajalakshmi Engineering College, Thandalam. The software kits were developed and the competition was organised by Wipro Technologies as part of its technology learning platform module. The participants were selected in the first stage from the engineering colleges in the South zone. This programme is an initiative of Wipro towards its corporate social responsibility in motivating the students and enhancing their employability.  Muthukrishnan, advisor, Rajalakshmi Institutions, stressed the need for lifelong learning. 

Video Conference at Omega School

Class 11 students from Lalaji Memorial Omega International School took part in a UN sponsored student leadership conference on development through a video link. The city students interacted with their peers from Mexico, the Philippines, Georgia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the US. The main gathering was at the United Nations headquarters in New York and was part of a global collaboration to prepare a sustainable urban development action plan. For about six weeks, students from Omega, a UNESCO associated school, have been identifying critical problems and challenges faced by urban India in order to prepare for the video conference.

19 Foreign Surgeons at ENT Course

Over 17 ENT surgeons from Bangladesh and 2 surgeons from Malaysia were among the 24  participants at the 62nd All India Temporal Bone Dissection course  held at the KKR ENT Super Specialty Hospital,  Maduravoyal. The popularity of this course can be gauged from the fact that the KKR ENT Hospital and Research Institute has been conducting this course twice a year over the last three decades. This course involves intensive teaching including hands-on training in temporal bone dissection, lectures and demonstrative videos of surgical procedures. 

New Rotaract Club Launched

Rotary Club of Chennai Carnatic and Jeppiaar Institute of Technology joined hands to launch the Rotaract Club of Jeppiaar Institute of Technology. This is an initiative to give back to society with focus on employability and youth leadership. The newly launched Rotaract Club will provide opportunity for students to enhance their knowledge and skills that will help them in personal development, address the physical and social needs of their communities.
